چکیده

Based on lithological, structural and geophysical characteristics, the Proterozoic Grenville Orogen of southern Ontario and New York has been divided into domains that are separated from each other by ductile shear zones. In order to constrain the timing of metamorphism, U-Pb ages were determined on metamorphic and igneous sphenes from marbles, calc-silicate gneisses, amphibolites, granitoids, skarns and pegmatites. In addition, U-Pb ages were obtained for monazites from metapelites and for a rutile from an amphibolite. These mineral ages constrain the timing of mineral growth, the duration of metamorphism and the cooling history of the different domains that make up the southern part of the exposed Grenville Orogen. Based on the ages from metamorphic minerals, regional and contact metamorphism occurred in the following intervals: Central Granulite Terrane: Adirondack Highlands: 1150 Ma; 1070-1050 Ma; 1030-1000 Ma Central Metasedimentary Belt: Adirondack Lowlands Frontenac domain Sharbot Lake domain Elzevlr domain: Bancroft domain: Central Gneiss Belt:

Oligocene partial melting in the Takab metamorphic complex, NW Iran: Evidence from in situ U-Pb geochronology

U-Pb ages obtained on zircons from the investigated migmatites place new constraints on the evolution of the crustal rocks in the Takab area. SHRIMP U-Pb dating of inherited zircon in the melanosome parts of mafic migmatites from the Takab complex gives a discordant age with an upper intercept of 2961±72 Ma (MSWD=0.5) and a lower intercept of 24.2±5.7 Ma (MSWD=1.7). In the concordia diagram, th...

Ion microprobe U Pb zircon geochronology and isotopic evidence for a trans-crustal suture in the Lapland–Kola Orogen, northern Fennoscandian Shield

The Lapland–Kola Orogen (LKO; former Kola craton) in the northern Fennoscandian Shield comprises a collage of partially reworked late Archaean terranes with intervening belts of Palaeoproterozoic juvenile crust including the classic Lapland Granulite Terrane. Rifting of Archaean crust began at c 2.5–2.4 Ga as attested by layered mafic and anorthositic intrusions developed throughout the norther...

Adakite magmatism within the Sabzevar ophiolite zone, NE Iran: U-Pb geochronology and Sr-Nd isotopic evidences

Numerous post-ophiolite intrusions exposed into the late Cretaceous–Paleocene Sabzevar ophiolite belt, northeast Iran. The intrusions consist of calc-alkaline intermediate to felsic rocks with metaluminous to peraluminous in nature and adakitic affinities. Based on U-Th-Pb dating on separated zircons by SHRIMP Ⅱ, the emplacement age of these rocks into the ophiolite zone is constrained to ~45 M...

New insights into the southern margin of the Archean–Proterozoic boundary in the north-central United States based on U–Pb, Sm–Nd, and Ar–Ar geochronology

New geophysical analysis of the Precambrian basement in Minnesota–Iowa–Wisconsin indicates that an Archean–Proterozoic boundary (Spirit Lake trend) previously recognized in NW Iowa can be continued eastward into central Wisconsin and farther east as the Spirit Lake tectonic zone (SLtz). To test the age of Paleoproterozoic crust south of this structure, several subsurface samples of Precambrian ...
